Director of Finance

BHC is seeking a skilled Director of Finance to assist with the success and growth of the company. This leadership position safeguards and preserves BHC's financial standing and ensures that all business transactions are conducted according to the values and profitability targets established by the company. The position plays a key role in major capital purchases and all major customer opportunities. 

The role is responsible for leading and directing the activities of the Accounting and Finance Department to maximize the return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems. And, is responsible for ensuring legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions.

Desired Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or business-related field and 5+ years related finance and accounting management experience – preferably in manufacturing, or associations with manufacturing companies
  • Strong knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Has deep knowledge of organizations applicable financial practices and procedures, as well as extensive understanding of state and federal rules and regulations
  • Proficient with Sage X3 accounting software (preferred) and standard office and accounting equipment
  • Uses effective leadership style, including; relationship building, earning trust, humility, influence of change and behavior change, conflict resolution, encouragement, and collaboration
  • Possess excellent coaching skills; listening, asking questions, evaluating, using meaningful feedback techniques, and empowering team members to come up with meaningful solutions on their own
  • Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education, participation in training and professional associations and other activities to keep abreast of current technology and accounting standards
  • Ability to nurture and manage relationships with internal and external customers
  • Communicates clearly and effectively to diverse audiences by actively listening, asking questions, being empathetic, and clarifying and summarizing
  • Strong critical thinking skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Provides leadership including coaching and mentoring to help team reach their full potential
  • A consummate professional to team, fellow employees and partners
  • Provides team with a clear vision, clear expectations, and a foundation of expected professional behaviors and accounting principles/processes to ensure they are successful
  • Assists HR and other departments with process to find, develop, motivate and retain team members
  • Optimizes performance of team members by establishing individual and team goals, and helping team identify activities that will yield top results
  • Uses a coaching based monthly one-on-one meeting with team to maximize performance, emphasizing development and allowing the team members to take ownership of their success and agenda
  • Holds team accountable by monitoring individual and team performance to ensure department related goals and performance standards are met. Assesses performance to make improvements and using coaching based feedback to address deficiencies. This includes monitoring and feedback of their professional behaviors and following of the accounting processes

Accounting and Finance Functions

  • Maintains accounting records in accordance with GAAP and financial policies and procedures
  • Oversees and approves the monthly closing process including accurate preparation of monthly financial statements, accounting journal entries, analysis of accounts and accruals, and posting journal entries into the system
  • Calculates current and deferred income taxes
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations advising management of actions and potential risks
  • Ensures the company maintains adequate financing for its operations and future plans, and maintains good relationships and communicates effectively with financial institutions 
  • Stays current on accounting standards and tax regulations
  • Ensures company financial reports are accurate and timely
  • Seeks ways to improve processes and efficiencies and reduce costs
  • Evaluates financial reporting systems, the system of internal controls, collection procedures, accounts payable, inventory management and investment activities, and makes recommendations for changes 
  • Works with CEO and other members of management and prepares appropriate financial analyses. Works with IT to develop appropriate financial reports. Prepares information for reporting to the Board of Directors and Shareholders
  • Prepares financial analysis for and participate in bids, price increases, pricing models, and determining list prices 
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates risk and insurance programs (not health insurance). Directs insurance negotiations and selects insurance brokers or carriers 
  • Prepares detailed income tax calculations for federal and state income tax returns and determination of estimated quarterly tax payments
  • Prepares for and manages financial and tax audits and associated documentation
  • Evaluates returns on capital equipment
  • Develops and oversees department budget and projections, and identify and resolve issues that cause discrepancies
  • Monitors cash, cash flows, and debt and other treasury functions
  • Monitors assets, including inventory and accounts receivable, including analyzing and reducing cash tied up in inventory and accounts receivable
  • Calculates inventories using LIFO and determine labor and overhead rates in inventory
  • Participates in developing and reviewing compensation and bonus plans
  • Conducts customer and product profitability analysis
  • Participates in analysis of potential acquisitions, and in union meetings and negotiations
